The Wallace Method is:

A synthesis of gentle (primarily passive assisted) movement and very gentle stretching with a focus on releasing the soft tissue to a depth that allows the bones to move freely.  Much, much more than ordinary linear stretching.  This goes much deeper.  Char will help you to clearly identify a source of pain, then reduce and very likely eliminate it.

LIFE ENHANCEMENT

Often people experience wonderful “side benefits” while correcting the original problem:

  1. Improved respiration from opening of the ribcage
  2. Improved circulation from releasing pressure on blood vessels and on nerves
  3. Increased confidence
  4. Better sense of balance
  5. And it just feels great!  It’s very relaxing to work with a practitioner as well as to work “solo”

Here is a partial list of conditions that our practitioners have been successful with treating:

  1. Migraine headaches
  2. General headaches
  3. Low back pain
  4. Knee issues
  5. Hip pain
  6. Frozen shoulder
  7. Rotator cuff issues
  8. Plantar fascitis
  9. Toe walking
  10. TMJ
  11. Osteoporosis
  12. Scoliosis
  13. Tennis elbow
  14. Arthritis of all types
  15. Ankylosing spondilitis
  16. Stiff Man’s Syndrome
  17. Lordosis
  18. Kyphosis (hunchback)

These issues take time to resolve, but they will resolve, if you stick with it.  It is not a miracle cure for these issues, but if you do your part in working closely with your practitioner and yourself, you will see results.

Rhythmic Movement Training (RMT):

RMT is a gentle movement method (both passive and active) used to bring integration and balance to children and adults with motor problems, postural imbalances, emotional and behavioral issues and general life overwhelm.  RMT has also been successful in working with people with anxiety and Parkinson’s Disease.  In my practice I use it to help correct postural imbalances and some motor problems.

RMT replicates the developmental movements associated with the infant reflexes. It also uses gentle isometric pressure to bring awareness to the body, which assists in releasing the stress and learned patterns of behaviour.

I often use RMT when we encounter an area that is resistant to releasing from the usual methods.  It is possible that it will not release because there may be what is known as a “retained reflex” or an unintegrated reflex.  A good example of this may be if you startle easily, your startle reflex may have been activated and your nervous system has not quieted it back down to normal.  Using “Reflex Integration” and certain rhythmic movements, we can help to bring it back to normal.

A little about Char:

I have been a bodyworker since 1983, when I received my certification from the Institute for Educational Therapy in Berkeley, CA.  Prior to that I received a B.S. in Biology from Fordham/Marymount University in NY.  In 1995 I began studying The Wallace Method TM with its founder, Ms. Heather Wallace.  I was originally introduced to The Wallace Method as a client.  I was looking for relief from a persistent sciatic nerve impingement which did not allow me to stand on one leg to put on a pair of pants.

Ms. Wallace taught me what to do to help myself so I did not have to see a Chiropractor every week for the rest of my life!  She taught me how to “unwind” the twist my body was apparently in.  Simultaneously, I was looking for a way to more deeply and profoundly help my clients with their physical issues.   I asked Heather if she would teach me her method that she had been successfully utilizing at a Pain Clinic in a Minneapolis hospital.  She agreed, and a few budding practitioners got together to learn.  We’ve stuck together for many years!  I was her first protegé to take the method and create a successful, full-time practice helping people just as she had helped me.  Without it, I honestly think that I would still be limping around, because I could not find anything else that truly got to the root cause of the problem.  I had been to M.D.’s, P.T.’s, D.C.’s, CMT’s – everybody.  They offered me temporary relief.    I appeared to have a normally functioning, relatively coordinated body, but inside I felt like a crab — things felt sort of sideways, and various parts hurt.  My hip hurt, my knee hurt, my low back hurt, I couldn’t bend forward to touch my toes without pain, my neck hurt … and I was only 35!!   I am now 50, and not only do I feel better than I did then, but I am noticeably more flexible and agile.  It pleases me to know that I know exactly what to do for myself or with a stretching partner to keep myself free from physical discomfort.  I now enjoy teaching others how to do the same.

I sometimes also utilize Brain Gym (R), reflex integration, deep massage and energy work when needed.
